About the film maker

“Following the paths of the beautiful Pirin” and “Beautiful sites in Pirin” are two films produced by Drago Mateev. The author, who is also a script-writer and cameraman, of these two pearls in the crown of Pirin has been traveling, camera in hand, all around the magnificent Bulgarian mountains for 40 years. He is also an author of many exhibitions devoted to the beauty and riches of Bulgarian mountains. Mateev has invested in these films not only his great talent of an artist and photographer, but also his heart of gold, filled with boundless love for Bulgaria. “Beautiful, magnificent, and unique” - that’s what he calls Pirin, the mountain whose Thracian name is Orbelus - Snowy Mountain, and which the ancient Bulgarians used to worship, comparing it to their god of storms, Perun, which has reached us transformed as Pirin.

Having seen the films of Drago Mateev, we will be proud of the fact that Pirin has been included in UNESCO’s list for global cultural and natural heritage sites, as well as in the UN’s list of national parks and preserves.
